Movember: awareness and lifestyle
Movember is the world’s ‘moustach growing’ charity-event which is organized every year in the month of November. Following a bet between friends in Australia in 2004, Movember has grown into a global organization that now operates in 21 countries.
Movember is about growing and leaving your mustache for 30 days (then you are officially a Mo Bro) and using that crazy hairy thing as a billboard for an important message: Men, talk about your health!
The mustache serves a visible symbol to break taboos and shame about prostate- and testicular cancer. ‘At the same time it is not just about creating awareness about prostate and testicular cancer but about the overall health of the man’ tell the founders. It is a new lifestyle which includes space to talk unashamedly about health issues.
Why? ‘The state of men’s health is in a crisis. Simply put, men are dying too young. Gender is one of the strongest and most consistent predictors of health and life expectancy. For men, this is not good news. On average, across the world, men die 6 years earlier than women’ according to Movember.
At ConsumingPassions we support of course the mission of Movember to make men living happier, healthier and longer lives. As real Mo Sista’s we know how important prevention is.
For more information, how to get involved and making a donation go the website of Movember. Funds raised in the Netherlands will be allocated to KWF-Movember research into prostate and testicular cancer and research conducted in the Netherlands that supports Movember’s Global Action Plan.
