Het Massagehuys – Eastern massages in Dutch Design
Research shows that this ancient form of hands-on healing may be more than an indulgence; it may help improve your health. And we found just the place to go!
Het Massagehuys , the Massage Home in English, in the upcoming Jan Evertsenstraat in Amsterdam West, small and simple. The old fashioned way of writing the name home –huys – in Dutch, does not do credit of the calm interior and modern design of this lovely place. Light wood and white canvas, with ceiling canopies.
The owners of the Massagehuys, Jaap Spreeuwenberg, of Coolpolitics, and Prakay Vichapa met in Thailand, fell in love and instead of staying in Thailand, they moved to Amsterdam and started in 2014 their own massage spot. The hustle and bustle of the street is sometimes audible and make you not fall away completely while being massaged but that is fine. The work day continues after the treatment and the Every Day Energy Massage gives you a boost which makes sharp and alert.
They offer a very accessible massage menu where you can combine the massage with their home made oils and matching biological tea. The massages we got were good; strong and sometimes a bit firm but our bodies needed that, they had not been given a proper massage for a long time. We always seem to put that last on our to do list… we are definitely going to change that after experiencing how wonderful and relaxed our bodies and minds felt after the massages.
Where massage used to be seen as a luxury – just pampering -, more and more research is demonstrating the health effects of massage therapy.
Massage helps move the blood and fluid around which is extraordinarily beneficial in healing. And we found a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving the massage in The Massagehuys. There are many more benefits of receiving massage or bodywork treatments, we can write about lengthy clinical researches¹.
But just realise, massage has existed for centuries. Massage is a universal instinct. There is definite evidence that it was common in Ancient Greece. In the medical field, massage was a typical Hellenistic remedy along with poultices, occasional tonics, fresh air and a corrective diet. The Romans too loved massages. The combination of bathing, cleansing and massage appeared in every country that the Romans conquered. Even though we did not lose track of the healing effects, massage is also being perceived as ‘pursuit of pleasure’. Just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic in our daily lifes.
Recent studies have confirmed that even the acceptance of massage therapy among medical centers continues to grow.
The body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care.Buddha
We too try to take care of our wellbeing. Wellbeing has five prominent elements, the aspects of life that matter most to people — our sense of purpose, our relationships, our financial security, our connection to our communities, and our physical health. By booking a massage, we established, other than just plain relaxing, alleviating the tensions of our modern lifestyles in this fast-paced world. It just helps! Find yourself a great local massage practitioner you like and set yourself to scheduling these appointments. If the Jan Evertsenstraat is nearby, go visit the Massagehuys!
